Results

The results gathered from my own calculations as well as the results gathered from the water usage calculators all show similar results of the amount of water being used by each person in a household of three in the span of a month. According to the Philadelphia Water Department, the average person spends about forty to one hundred and thirty gallons per day. Different factors can influence the amount of water a person uses regardless of the amount of time they use water for. On the lower end of the scale, someone with water efficient appliances such as low pressure faucets and shower heads, as well as water saving washer and dishwasher can dramatically save more water than someone who doesn’t have these water efficient appliances. With my home having only water efficient faucets and dishwasher, my results put me near the center of the scale with only using approximately seventy eight gallons per person each day. If any changes are to be done the Energy Saving Trust recommends to check for leaks, as this can significantly increase the water being used in your household. Another way is to switch to low flow fixtures such as shower heads and faucets. Using a dual flushing toilet to use leads water per flush can also help a lot in decreasing the amount of water that is being used. An uncommon way to also save water is by collecting it, catching rain water is a very uncommon thing people do, however it is one of the best ways to save water. Reusing rain water will drastically reduce water usage in your home and cut your water bill in half as well.
